I need some lighting ideas for my 96''x36''x30" tank. I would like to hang it from the ceiling as I already have chains in place from when my 230 gallon was in place. The tank will be a freshwater fish only tank, mainly predators.
Any good sites for lighting that are pretty straight forward.

I have a 84 x 40 x 40 inch tank and I am running one single 250 watt Metal halide above the tank with a reflector behind it. I have it about 4 feet above the tank and the light seems very even over the tank. It does not seem too bright as to cause too much algae and it give a very nice shimmer to mimic natural sunlight. I do place some shades over some areas of the tank to cause shaddows to give a cave effect in the tank.

Assuming since you said, mainly predators, that plant life wont be concern, right? So the most eco acceptable/FW, inexpensive road, even more so since your hanging them, would be your local hardware store & wrk light section. Yes sir, how many 48" shop lights will you need today, 3, that will be $20. ;) That is unless someone could show where $500 today will pay for itself, then save you $$ in the future, lots of new $$$$ energy savers recently available.

A ? for you would be how many different types of light do you want. One row of 2, double strip 48" wrk lights, w/ an additional cnterd 48" single or double? for a lunar light would be fine & all the other can be straight forward wht fluorescent light. Just can't beat the price, including the bulbs, you could do this for under $40-$50 easy.

Idea, do a poll & see how many of us go w/ shop/wrk light, came w/ the tank or other, for your type set up.

If that (wrk lights) just isn't going to wrk, here are a few other places, don't know about hanging any of these though, sure anything's possible.http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZfishman911, http://www.aquatichobbyaquariumsupply.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=212064, http://www.hellolights.com/, http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp18369/si1383402/cl0/coralife24aqualightpowercompactstriplight1x65watt, Big Als, Fostersmith has the easiest way to view the most of your possibilities. :) :) :)
