Hey all! Not sure if this is the right forum for this or not... Mods feel free to move this as needed. Thanks. I posted an ad on craigslist http://corvallis.craigslist.org/hss/652163046.html , and am going to print up a few flyers to put on LFS bulletin boards and see if I get any bites. I'm a self-proclaimed fish nerd, and I want to try and turn my hobby/obsesson into a few extra bucks by cleaning and maintaining people's aquariums for money. I was just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with this, and if maybe you could give me some advice, like what kind of liability waiver I should have clients sign for example, or pricing tips, anything really. Thanks for your time!

Here's one I saw on a local craigslist http://tampa.craigslist.org/for/649456207.html

Talk to an insurance agent about liabilities, not only for water damage but fish deaths or illnesses.

Get good equipment and learn to use it (including pro series test kits and meters).

Dress speak and act professionally.

And be able to correctly answer any question put forth to you by the customer (after all you are in business & therefore should know more than the customer about your profession).

Keep a log of every customers tank and conditions and maintenance schedule (when you walk in, take an inventory of the fish and compare to the last time you were there, if it's different question the customer before you put a hand in the tank).

Discuss any problems or potential problems with the customer.

Be or get on a first name basis with all the LFS in your territory should you or they need something (and don' ask them for favor, give them some).

Oh, never mention in an ad that you want to make money off of the customer ;), you can state fees / rate schedules and any specials you may do.

It's a big responsibility, so good luck.

The guy I see who runs his out of the local LFS also has a wholsalers liscense so he can get fish from the distributor. Another good point for your customers to know, I can get you anything!
