I found a few sources online, but they don't list if there are any antimicrobial chemicals or if they are aquarium safe. I am looking to fill 3 FX5 filters with foam for extra mechanical filtration and also put them in between the baffles on my sumps. Ideally looking for 2-2.5" thick sheets of sponge or "foam". Thought I would give this a try before getting the Fluval Biofoam inserts for Fx5/Fx6 at $10/box of 2.

Check out Poret foam from Swiss Tropicals. I use it in both canister, power and air lift type filters. The initial cost puts some people off but it lasts years and doesn't break down. You might also see if he sells cut off scraps/pieces for use in media trays.

Thanks I saw them in my original search, but thought they were international due to name. I'll email him to see what size and ppi he recommends for my sump. It is a 125 gal (60x24x20) with 1.5" of space in between baffles. As for the Fx5s, the fluval Biofoam packs came back into stock at Kens so i just ordered 9 of them to fill all of my baskets.

i got spare japanese blue mats i can cut u some where r u located?

I just buy cheap filter pad material on eBay and layer it. There's probably a better way but for the cost I find it more than adequate.
