So im going to eventually be making a DIY Rock wall and im trying to save on some costs for materials. Found this old Silicone tube in my garage. Says its waterproof, permanent, and seals leaks. Its an Auto glass cleaner it says right on the front. Think its aquarium safe?

If it says its 100% silicone than more than likely thats what it is and that makes it aquarium safe after fully curing.

But ask your self if its worth the risk to save 3-4 bucks?

And all silicones have a experation date on them. If its expired it will not cure and you will be left with one heck of a sticky mess than will not wash off.

I would not try it. Just get a tube of GE 100% silicone from the hardware store for a few bucks and rest easy knowing your safe.

GE Silicone I (in the blue tube)

I've been using that stuff for years, it works great. Don't use any of the stuff with "mold and mildew resistance" IE. the stuff for bathrooms. They use harsh chemicals in that stuff that your fish wont like.;)

Thanks guys. Just picked up some regular aquarium silicone. First job is to fix my filter. For some reason it just started making sonuds like its grinding gears. Basically the impeller is boucning around in there and the metal shaft isnt staying put. So im siliconing the shaft so it stays vertical and so hopefully it will stop making the noise.
