So I am in the middle of treating ich in my 55 gallon, thanks to my bone-headed move of buying a few ghost shrimp for the GTs to eat for a snack from PetCo, well 3 days later i notice a white speck on one of the GTs fins.... Sh*t, the next day we have a full on outbreak. So I bump up the temp and add some aquarium salt. Instantly the dudes start perking up and acting more like themselves. Today I did a 50% WC and added some more salt to make up for what I took out. So far the only casualty was a Tiger Barb, and some of my poor GTs fins got a little eaten up. My question is this: How long after the 10 day salt and temp treatment should I keep aquarium salt dissolved in the water to help the fins heal and prevent further infection. Is it safe to have a small dose of Aquarium Salt dissolved in freshwater constantly? Also, I have my temp set at 85.5, when should I back that down to 79-80?

Thanks for the help!

here we go....I use salt in some tanks all the time. The ghost shrimp did not give your tank ich as they do not carry fish diseases. It came from somewhere else. I would leave the temp at 82-84 to help avoid future outbreaks. Keep treating a few days after they look just fine....Good luck...

Thanks for the advice Big, I assumed that the ich tagged along in the water from PetCo, not the shrimp themselves.
