hi, the PH test kit show that after i added the aquarium salt in the test tube, it will increase the PH level, i wonder is that mean the aquarium salt can be used like the PH-up product to increase the PH level?

btw, what chemical inside the PH-up product that really increase the PH level?

thanks for answering newb question.

Water with high hardness usually has a high pH. Softening the water will lower the pH. so yes salt will do it. I use salt in my pond to control the algae, keeps Nitrites down also kills parasites. The maximum level of salt that you can run without major damage to the fish is 0.3%. Only use this high salt level if treating fish wounds and infestation. use 1-3 teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon.
