I am planning on adding aquarium salt to my piranha tank because they have some cuts. I have a pleco in the tank, will it be ok with the salt? The box says 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons.

Also should I dissolve the salt in a cup first? if so how long does it take?

should be ok, I've used it with non-armored cats and plecos with no ill effects as long as it is not a constant addition to their water

Dissolve salt thoroughly and add slowly.

i also have a issue that im looking to add salt. but which salt for water softners can i pick up.

Are the wounds infected? If not i wouldnt add salt, due to the pleco, just do daily waterchanges till it starts healing up?

If you prefer salt, then always do the dosage smaller than what it says on the box since you have the pleco. The salt itself doesnt really do much, persay, but it reduces the saltlevel the fish has to create on its own in order to fight its decease.

The salt can be dumped directly into the tank. It will dissolve anyway.

I've added salt to tanks with pleco before with no apparent ill effects. I would say it should be fine
