Does anyone use aquarium salt on a regular basis, not for treating fish for disease, but just to keep them healthy?

only if i see a fish getting sick.

1. Waste of time and money.
2. Risk of creating salt-resistant strains of parasites particularly with ich. And resorting to harsher chemicals was never the greatest idea just to destroy salt-resistant parasites.

More informed people seem to agree that you shouldn't however I've been using it regularly for a decade and have had great success, of course I can't prove that the salt helped me in any way shape or form. Personally I've heard enough evidence to convince to quit but old habits are hard to break.

Same here...although I only use it on my FH's tank on a regular basis. Lately I have been omitting the addition of salt to his tank...with absolutely no ill effects. My other tanks have only trace amounts (if any at all) of salt.

I've always wondered about the use of salt. I used it when I first started my tanks because that's what the dude at the lfs said to do, but after reading that it really isn't nessecary, I've stoped. I cant tell one bit of difference, between my fish now and my fish then. Honestly I think it's all a ploy by the salt manufacturers get to people to buy salt......or maybe not!

I don't use it for anything but treating illness, which I haven't had to do in over a year (my mother's betta). Even then, it was under the careful guidance of a breeder.
