Aquarium sponge filters

I currently have a superfish air sponge filter in one of my tanks. The pic shows it with the sponge pointing upwards. Would it still work as well if I were to point the sponge downwards like in the picture except my filter only has one sponge. Thanks in advance for any help.

It will be fine pointed down. Assuming there is not an opening for the second sponge. If yours has this tee and no sponge on it there filter will be useless. If it is meant to run singular and you point it down it will be just fine

Thank you. No, there is only one sponge and it's an elbow, not a t so there is no open hole on it.
