I build my own tank stands out of pine / 2x4's and 2x6's - I recently built two for my twin 75's. I finished both of them, before putting the tanks on, since they were painted and all. One is perfect, but the other one has one corner that is 1/16 off, so the tank on that corner is almost 1/16 "off" the top. It rocks, as a result. How can I remedy this? I'm not going to be able to just raise that corner of the top. What can I put under the tank on that corner, and still keep the integrity of the tank?

Thick ass styrofoam. I use styrofoam/styrene (whatever you call it in your locality) under all my tanks... it's a safe thing to do with regards to level, gravel/foreign objects under the glass, etc. should anything put pressure on it irregularly.

Get a sheet to go under the whole tank at a reasonable thickness. You can also paint it with anything foam safe to hide it a little if it can be seen. That way it's nice and neat.

When I did my stand for 75 gallon it was not level, so I got some wooden shims at home depot, works perfectly. I didn't really need it, despite the level being off some, once you add the substrate and water, etc It finds a way to stable out. As long as it's not too far off then you won't have any problem.

Both excellent suggestions - I tried a shim tonight, but there is still space between the tank and the stand top, once the shim ends, if that makes sense.
As for the foam - there are several products at the local hardware stores - what thickness do you suggest ? A half inch?

I've always used 1/2 to 3/4 inch... (Custom timber cabinets/stands)

Maybe measure the distance between the pivot point and the lowest point of the dip where it is uneven to determine the thickness. Something thick enough to fill the void, but thin enough to compress down on the point it's pivoting on and not look hideous.

I had 1/2" under my 150, worked like a champ

Ive used foam under the glass part of my tanks when they are on a uneven surface ( like my sump & feeder tanks underneath the tank) but never the rim. It is obvious how does the finish product look?
