Mine is currently doing this as well. I'm upgrading him to a 4' 120, hopefully that will make him more comfortable. My 120 has glass lids and canister filters. Every possible inch will be covered and then covered again

I use black duct tape and broken slate tiles. I don't need to cover my emperor 400 anymore cause my eel is so big now but here's some pics with green tape so you can see it but I used black duct tape. I used slate pushed up to it and to cover up holes as well

that is about the only idea i came up with , i just wish it looked a little better since this tank is in my living room.

Use those quilting plastic mesh. Just cut to what you want to cover and maybe use hot glue to make it secure to the glass canopy. Since its a mesh, you can go right up against the hob return spout and water can still move through freely

I used to use drop ceiling light covers on my saltwater tank when I had a snowflake eel it drops right down on the rim. You can get them at home depot but it wouldn't work for little eels. How big are the holes in the mesh?
