Can anyone tell me why they decided on what gallon size aquariums to sell? There are 2 then 5, 10, 29, 55, etc. Why not just 10, 20, 30, 40, 50? I know there must be some reason behind it, but I can't for the life figure out why a 29 gallon and not 30.

There is really no 'standard' size for fish tanks. There are some common ones, and it's likely they developed as standards because they use glass sizes that can be cut from a full sheet with little waste. Makes them cheaper to build if you can just slice up a full sheet into tank parts with no leftovers.

Yep... 48 x 18 x 12 = 44.95g

Then of course are they talking ID or OD?

And since we never fill them full... 2" from the top drops another 5g off of it.

So you thought you had your fish in a 55g, but now it's a 40g . Misrepresentation?? I think so.

Should we make car horsepower in the even numbers such as 100, 150 and 200 horsepower cars? If not then why should we do it with tanks? Its just the way they are made.

I'm not really sure either. However, I'm glad they make 29 gallons, because my 29 gallon fits in exactly where it is. Literally, half an inch longer, and it wouldn't have fit in.
