Can anyone recommend an alternative to Aquasafe please ? I have been using it for a while now, but it's working out super expensive !

I'm in ther UK too, so may not be able to get some products.

Thankyou.

Hello; From the ad about tetra aquasafe it is used to neutralize chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals found in some tap water. Is this the product you want to replace? If so it may depend on what is in your tapwater. If your tap water does not contain chloramines or heavy metals and has only chlorine, you can get by without using chemical water conditioners.
My tap water sits in containers for several days, usually a week, before water changes and the chlorine is no longer an issue. I have done water changes this way at my present location for over a year and a half and before at another home for over twenty years. I do not know about th Uk, but here in Tennessee and Kentucky the water company sends a water quality report each year.

Best be safe than sorry, I doubt your water supply company would inform you before hand should they decide to include chloroamine in their treatment (some don't even notify). A bottle of prime can last for a month even on very large tanks. Treat it as insurance.

Hello; As expected, there are members that will support the use of chemical water treatments. I ran into this on another fish forum last year as well. You as the OP now have a couple of opinions to consider. The initial post was about reducing the expense of treating water. Not sure about the members of this site, but on the other it turned out that several members did not use chemical water treatment with their tap water.

Perhaps a call to your local water company will get the answer about what is in the water. I suspect that water companies may have some requirement to inform the public about changes in the way they treat the water supply. I will contact the local people here and report what I find out. I now am curious about this. This will not apply to the Uk at any rate, so you may wish to do your own checking.
