I'm trying to come up with an idea for my new 5 foot tank. I was thinking of useing Large rocks or wood. But then I thought of water displacement. if its a large piece how much water is displaced?

Is it worth it to use a large rock or wood.

The amount of water displaced is dependent upon the volume of the object you put it in the tank.
Take into consideration of the fish stock you want use and add decor accordingly to be compatible with the stock.
It all boils down to it's your tank and if you like it use it.

I like that wood it's pretty cool. where did you find it?

I wouldn't worry about that you make the tank just like you want it and it should be fine. I'm just guessing but my putting in big rocks or pieces of wood its going to rise the water level equally for the whole tank not just were the pieces are setting.

You're good dude. It's not that much water. Think of it this way:

Lets say you wanna put in a nice size rock, about the size of a gallon of milk.
(I've had a couple this size. Trust me, your not going to want, or be able, to lift anything bigger. A rock that size is around 60lbs)
Lets say you have a 72x18x32 (180 gallon)
You divide the number of gallons into the height of the tank.

So for every rock you put it in there, it's only going to raise the water .18 inches....

you're good.....
