Hey All!

Well I have a 135G with a black background on a metal stand. I have some lava rocks (a bit) and no substrate.

I want to do without plants on this one. Any tips on selecting the color of the substrate or rocks?

What is your stock? Are you looking for a naturalistic setting?

In my opinion most fish look best against a darker substrate. Some fish that are prone to changing their color, such as sunfish, are actually brighter when their surroundings are dark-colored, and other fish simply look brighter due to greater contrast.

As with cars and upholstery, black and white show dirt the most, neutral earth tones the least.

I'm looking for something that looks sharp lol I have 2 silver aros and a red oscar.

I'd like to keep the black background. I also like black sand substrate but I feel that black-on-black would look bad?
