In the process of preparing a 55 gallon tank for a snowflake moray, wanted to know what is the best way to position the live rock (or other rocks perhaps) in order to avoid the eel getting hurt most importantly, but also to provide sufficient hiding spaces.

thanks

one thing. try not to make an arch way. i remember my friend had a snowflake eel and once it got to a medium size it was hiding under the rocks and made room for itself to move around underneath the rocks, so it will get strong enough to move the rocks around to gain some room for hiding. other than that, not really sure never had one myself, another friend of mine wants to get an eel too, so we'll see how that works. good luck though, i like the snowflakes, but i only have a 30g nanocube with a some live rock and a flame angel and a bunch of hermits lol.

^^^ = Longest sentence ever. :D

I wouldnt recommend forcing your snowflake to dig through the substrate. Get yourself a masonry drill, and some zip ties. I just did this this past weekend, drilled my rock, ziptied it all together. It allowed me to make some pretty crazy formations, and keep the rock stable.

I would also recommend buying a piece of PVC large enough for him to live in as a full grown eel. Then cover this with live rock. It will create a large, safe, stable place for him to hide. No worries about a potential live rock collapse killing your fish.

Good luck!

yea, i know, lol.
its not safe to have the eel dig its way under the rocks but if you can make in otherwise so it would have more room that would work.

Sounds legit. Maybe make a deeper sand bed and bury and adequate sized piece of pvc for him to live in? I just like stabilization. Leave as few things to chance as possible. Last thing you want is a collapse on your beloved eel.
