I really want to have planted tank , but my oscar loves to pull up the plants, only a few java ferns (which is infested with black algae:swear:) survive her rampages.

I really like the heavy planted tank look, I tried to put jungle val in the tank but my O decimated it, I also have a large lava rock that has some christmas moss on it (it's growing reeeally slowly for some reason?) which she leaves alone fo some reason.

I was wondering what plants I could keep and how I could keep my oscar and friends from ripping the plants up.

also I have been looking for a nice center peice of driftwood , could someone reccomend some good websites that sell wood thats not to expensive? thanks.

Its the space issue, oscars and other big cichlids rip them up because they dont want them around them. So a heavily planted tank wont work. You can try a few plants spread around although those are still risk of being destroyed. Soem guy on here told em to try and use plants with waxy leaves.

okay I am really attatched my my oscar , but I think I want a planted tank more :s

Planted tanks are alot more work. It makes it harder to clean them too, thats my only complaint. Not too many cichlids will work with a jungle-type tank. You can manage sometimes with a few misc plants though and see how it goes.

I keep java fern tied to drift wood, bocapa, and flame moss withy vieja argentea. Also had annubias in there. Tried java fern or annubias tied to dw towards the ends of the tankaybe he wont bother them. I used th thread to tie the plants to the dw

I keep onion plants and green tiger lotus with severum, melanurus and silver dollars.
