so if not i jus traded 25 rd+fh for a POS

Aqua tech isn't that what they sell at walmart. You shaould have just went there and purchase one.

i have a couple of those filters on a 55 but if u fill the water all the way up to the filter its not that noisy....

They are a wal mart brand filter. the 30-60 cost about $25. i have several and mine are quiet. if it wasnt for the "waterfall action" i wouldnt even know they are on. They are not the greatest of filters but doubleing up on them on a tank seems to work ok.

These are pretty much Penguins, without the bio wheels.
As with all HOB the impeller is the weak link.
A little misalignment, grit, or just the phase of the moon seems to cause a bunch of noise.
Sometimes they are quiet right out of the box and stay that way for an awful long time.
Other times, they are noisy when first started and within a couple weeks, they quiet down and run fine.
All to often, they get noisy and stay that way forever.
The only way to quiet some of these down is to throw them against a wall.

"Might be common knowledge to some of you, but I didn't know.

The Walmart brand "aqua-tech" is actually Marineland products (ie filter inserts, the smaller tanks like the hex 5 etc)

I bought a aqua-tech 5 today, which is actually the same as one of the marineland eclipse systems (parts on it say marineland as well as the manuals) at a greater savings... plus those who use the marineland filters can save a bunch buying the filter cartridges"

I agree they are not the best, but when it's what you got.. then you try and make the best of it...

Like someone said before, try filling the tank up high.. well as high as you can without making a mess... or double check and make sure it's not super dirty or something... did you clean it out well before using it.... ?

Agreed. I had one on a tank with a single clawed frog species. It worked for bio. Just don't expect it to filter your 55 or something!
