Anyone here ever combined an aquarium and a terrarium. I am thinking about doing it in my basement. I have 30 feet and I want 20 to be aquarium at 5 feet deepest and 10 feet of terrarium at 3 feet. Want to have a water fall supplied from the filter with a river that will run to the aquarium. I am thinking of making a south amarican blackwater biotope.

The type of setup you are describing is called a paludarium. There's a ton of info on google

This is on a smaller scale but it might help you out and give you some ideas. Also talk with LP- he has a caiman enclosure that is closer to that size.

Yes I have a paludarium but on a way smaller scale with a waterfall and all too good luck make a build theaf if you do it

Look up the 1200G stingray river or something here in MFK... Its basically a huge paludarium with rays, chameleons, poison dart frogs etc...

OP, if you build one, they will come...

Haha jk.

Anyways, hopefully yours will have more volume of water and less home depot garden plants...

Where to start. First let me say I am not trying to discourage you from this, it may seem like it though. There are a few major things to address but first, so you know Im not talking out my bum. Plenty of pics of my build can be found....

The first one is looooooonnnnnnnnggggggg. My build still to this day isnt even close to done.

Ill try to tackle most but who knows if I will remember everything.

First issue of many is, are you ok with this being permanent? This is a long complex build that if your get annoyed with it too bad, your stuck with it. Another issue is cost. If you are looking to see in your ponds this adds alot of cost BTW. What you want is not a cheap undertaking. What sp are you looking to keep? Do you plan to co hab sp? If so, are they gonna eat each other? How are you gonna heat it? Heat the water? Filter the water? Clean it? How are you dealing with built up moisture? How are you gonna feed the inhabitants? If your keeping something large, are your plants gonna be able to stand up to their weight? How are you at caring for plants?

These are things to consider, and there is a major reason most people to not attempt one even close to my size let alone the size you are discussing. It is a long and complicated undertaking and the more complicated you make it the harder it becomes to care/build. It is a rewarding take but it does take devotion.
