I am a member of Aquatic-photography.com and I think being that it is a branch of monsterfish keepers, most of the people on this site should join that site. Its very dead lately, so this post is just to remind people to check it out . Even if you dont take amazing pictures or take pictures at all, it doesnt hurt to look at other peoples pictures or comment on anything! Aquatic photography needs your help!!!!!!

LOL, good thread!

Everyone is so afraid of posting photos there but it doesn't help that there isn't a lot of feedback either!

Definetely, Whenever I post something there is never any feedback really so I feel like ppl arent interested/ there is nobody on the website!!!!

BTW, I enjoy all of your pics Chaitika, hopefully we can get the website some more members :)

I have APF decals for sgp members who are interested!

I really like the site, but it's a ghost town. There's about 4 posts a day. Has anybody given thought into merging the two sites? Photography threads would get a lot more views/feedback, and APF members could stick to their own subforum.

I know it's nice to have it as a seperate site and all because it's advanced photography, but I don't think it's working. The traffic is just too low to warrant frequent visits.

Thats definetely a good idea, maybe that could happen in the near future but I just wanted to say something...you said its advanced photography...but its reallly not as intimidating as it seems, I thought I sucked at first but everyone has really nice things to say which really help. Even if you want to get better photos in order to post on MFK, just to really bring out your fish rather than just like washed out photos, im sure everyone on the site would be able to help. Of course a lot of the people on the site do have very advanced techniques and photos but thats always something to strive for.

It's a niche hobby. Low numbers of members, and always has been. A lot of the old members there were pros who earned a living doing photography and aquatic shoots made up a portion of their incomes.

Nowadays, you have companies like Hikari who throw a couple of hundred bucks worth of fishfood and they get 4-5K photo entries which they have full license for. They would never get full license on any image from a pro and they would have to pay a decent price for the use of a good pic.

The same thing is happening in other markets, like cat and dog foods. Look at the contests out there. Lots of people now own digital cameras and photoshop can make a mediocre picture look pretty good.

The economy has killed a lot of advertising budgets so the companies have had to do whatever to survive. It's not that they stopped paying photographers that irks me, its the fact that they con the average joe into giving up full rights on the image they took for the chance of winning some crappy contest.

So what does my rant have to do with APF? It used to be the guys who were in the "business" who drove that site. Most of them are gone and will never be back. There just aren't enough people wanting to improve their photo skills and who want to do the work necessary. Most guys now just want to be told what settings to use.

would be a great idea to merge.. we need to build up a great photography forum.. you bring it here... we have the people.. lol
