So I was deep in thought today while putzing with my ray tank:

Are there any known zoonotic diseases in Potomotrygon, Elasmobrachs or fish in general that I am not aware of??? (herps excluded)

*zoonotic: diseases that pass easily from animal to human*:barf:

examples: Toxoplasmosis, E.Coli, Ringworm, Giardia, Salmonella, Tuberculosis, Ehrlichiosis, Gastroenteritis, Rabies, Cryptosporidium, Hantavirus, Bartonella and least but not least, Encephalitis.

Respectfully,
FireMedic.

im sure some of the internal parasites rays get could get passed onto humans some how but nothing i have ever heard of...

You might catch something if you ate it them raw, but I doubt you could catch anything from external contact.

There are many very nasty bacteria that are frequently found in aquariums. One of the nicer ones is Vibrio Cholera. There are so many others that can make you sick or even very very rare, kill you.
Incorrect treatment of disease with wrong medications or wrong doses is a big problem that creates super resistant disease, why many countries make it difficult to purchase medications without vet advice and prescription.

You'll find more info on this if you post it in the health and disease section..

I have heard you run more risks with freshly imported fish/boxes because of disease tolerances and resistances from other countries.
