The instructions on this thing stink. It was delivered yesterday and I have been searching since trying to figure out which end is the Inlet and which is the out.

I assume the in is the one at the top by the cord but want to make sure.

Thanks for the help

It doesn't matter which way you want to be in or out...water just passing through the UV light....how long water being expose to the UV light is MATTER.

Yeah I knew that about the amount of time just was not sure which end was which. I am hooking it up to my Reana XP4 so I should be good. It is the 36 watt model

With an unknown... try putting both hose ends in water (a clean gatoraid bottle will suffice) then push the primer down slowly and hold for a few seconds, then release... the hose that sucks up water is your filter inlet line EVERY TIME!!!

Are both connections the same size? If one end is larger is most likely the inlet.

I have an AquaTop 400UV. The water flows down past the UV light and up through the trays which if I remember correctly, means the hose by the UV "on/off" switch cover (which also has a slight glow when UV is on) is your intake.
As for the UV itself... old school dwell time was to kill the pathogens in one pass by the UV light. This was found to be overkill. New school is light strong enough to damage the DNA so as to render pathogens incapable of reproducing, since most are short lived outside of a host anyway.

IMPORTANT!!! TURN YOUR UV LIGHT OFF FOR A GOOD WEEK OR TWO TO ESTABLISH THE BENEFICIAL BACTERIA IN YOUR FILTER MEDIA!!! TURN IT ON AFTER YOUR AMMONIA AND NITRITES DROP TO NEAR ZERO PPM.

The UV is an in line. I know which line on the filter is the inlet. Just was not sure where to put the filter out

Yep same size. It come with fittings you trim to match the hose size you are using.

Thanks for the tip. The tank has been up and running for years. So I am good there. I think we have different models. The one I bought is this one. It is the 36 watt

I switched it around and put the in at the bottom. It seems to work better. The other problem with the in at the top was issues when I cleaned the filter. The siphone suction did not have enough power to go up out of the filter to the top of the UV to fill it back up. With the big air bubble in the line the filter would not pump hard enough either.

Running the in to the bottom fixed this issue

So if any of you guys get one of these I would recommend running the in line at the bottom of the UV.
