AQUEON HOB'S AND SAND

so... does anyone else use aqueon hob's on their tanks that have sand... I have 2 running (without pre- filters)...no extra noise or impellor damage to report ,after more than a month.... knowing this is not a scientific conclusion ....I would still say that these hob's are sand freindly and I FOR 1 would recommend them for use with sand...

Same here. Just cleaned out my filter and there was sand sitting in the bottom and it never got load and didn't see any damage. If they made a aqueon 100+ gallon it would destroy the aquaclears. Just my opinion....

I THINK that the fact that the water passes by the impellor limits any damage.... most impellors sit in a "well" and sand tends to end up in the well.... making it more likely to be damaged.... oh as a footnote I also think aqueon's are good overall filters...the 55/75 is about =to ac70.. IMO..and better than the pen 350's I use...

I use one and a small eheim canister filter on my 55 that has pfs, all good pretty much silent

I have the 55/75 on a 70g with aragonite sand and it does get some sand in it but no issues I have had it since last summer

Tetra whispers work great with a sand tank as well. Been running one with sand for a few months now with no problems.
