:popcorn: so... does anyone else use aqueon hob's on their tanks that have sand... I have 2 running (without pre- filters)...no extra noise or impellor damage to report ,after more than a month.... knowing this is not a scientific conclusion ....I would still say that these hob's are sand freindly and I FOR 1 would recommend them for use with sand...:)

Same here. Just cleaned out my filter and there was sand sitting in the bottom and it never got load and didn't see any damage. If they made a aqueon 100+ gallon it would destroy the aquaclears. Just my opinion....

I THINK that the fact that the water passes by the impellor limits any damage.... most impellors sit in a "well" and sand tends to end up in the well.... making it more likely to be damaged.... oh as a footnote I also think aqueon's are good overall filters...the 55/75 is about =to ac70.. IMO..and better than the pen 350's I use...

I THINK maybe we are on to the "first"sand freindly HOB:headbang2:popcorn:

we are getting closer to it being "the GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MFK......."

Tetra whispers work great with a sand tank as well. Been running one with sand for a few months now with no problems.
