Aqueon ProFlex Sump Filtration System Model 1

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/aqueon-modular-proflex-sump-filtration.html

Thinking of getting this for my 50g cube(24x24x20).

It will be a freshwater tank. The reason I'm leaning towards this particular one is the versatility for future use and the PRICE! Plus it will fit in the stand I'm building(24x24x33).

Give me your opinions or suggestions for other models. *other models cannot be longer than 20" or it will not fit in my stand;)

I have the model one on a 54 gallon corner tank and love it...a bit flimsy but well designed and easy to set up and maintain

I have a model 4, currently using for 3 years or so. I like it and it's been great. But if I had to do all over I would have used a 55g tank; even though they are versatile they are still limited.
They are great if you don't do DIY

I have an empty one sitting here for a reef tank and for a reef I say they can be great as they have allot of options. For a freshwater tank just get a spare tank and throw it under there you can then plan for hanging your filter socks from the stand and plan on running just one big 7x16 sock. Then buy some pond matrix for yoir media and you will do great for anything and everything you need.

Thanks for the replies!

I thought about DIY "didysis" but I do plan to eventually turn this into a saltwater tank, so the added cost for a manufactured sump with it's versatility is worth it to me in the long run. Plus it will fit in my stand! So will a DIY sump 10g tank but I'm so busy with work(traveling), I can barely find the time to build my stand, haha!!!

I have a model 3 on my 75G tank and I like it. It's a pretty good design and does the job. If I was to find any negatives about is that it is a bit expensive and the acrylic could be a bit thicker.

what pump would you suggest for this sump on a 50g? The tank has two intakes and 1 return(I will probably cap one of the intakes because the Model 1 sump only has one intake)

Is it common to install an inline valve on the return to control water flow?

Depends on the bulk head size and piping for the overflow. I bet its like 3/4inch?

All three holes are 2"(so a 1" SCH80 bulkhead with 1.88" OD threads) and I think the intake for the sump I want is 1"

I had someone with a 90 gallon tank with one overflow that was 1inch bulkhead for the drain and one for the return and I got them to purchase the rio hf 17 which needed to be throttled back a little because the overflow could not handle it at full run. great pump with low power usage.
