I just purchased one of these a few days ago and I just used it today for the first time and my first thoughts were. " what a freakin waist of water!" I cant belive you have to leave your faucet running for you to be able to use it as a vacuum and it has to be turned on high for it to siphon the water from the tank out. Does anyone else have one of these? I wonder if petsmart will take it back. I got it because it said it used less water when cleaning however I dont see how..

I turn the water all the way up to siphon the turds out of my tank, then when they're all gone, I turn the water off and the gravity pull should take the rest of the water out. It'll be at a slower pace than with the faucet on, but at least it's siphoning the water.

Are you putting the end that goes outside your house (or in the drain) at a lower level than the tube inside the tank? The lower you can get the output end, the better the suction will be.

no i run it into my bathroom which is right beside my bedroom

To drain tanks I usually just use a long hose with a gravel vac attachment going outside and siphon it.

Same.

its great for filling I love it but im definetly not going to use it to clean anymore ill just hook up my self priming one and throw the hose out the window if it will reach hopefully

You are probably losing some of your suction power that way. I am pretty sure you have hose laying on the floor then the water has to up into the tub, toilet, or sink.

Is the bedroom upstairs? One of my tanks is upstairs and the water pressure is too weak to create a suction. I run 2hoses together and run it down to my bathroom closest to the street and the suction is ridiculous due to the vertical drop. I leave the water on long enough to vacuum the poop and then turn it off to let gravity complete the change

ah yeah its upstairs I just dont feel like spending $60 on a 50ft water changer. Is there a way to get like a clear tube from homedepot etc and put it together with my hose for the water changer?
