Hi guys, i bought a 5 inch arapaima a month ago. He is now nearly 9inches. He eats perfectly at night when no ones around with little or no light. The thing is he/she gets very scared when i come near the tank. And starts moving left to right at a very fast speed. He doesnt eat in the day time and when anyone is around. What is the problem and what do i do?

He’s stressed out. He might feel he doesn’t have enough room to hide if necessary so when anyone approaches he freaks out. When he’s big he’ll probably outgrow the behavior. How big is the tank and what other fish are with it

Wait it out. Once bigger it’ll change. Make sure there are plants and decor to help reduce stress.

Floating plants, perhaps more subdued lighting. A substrate might help as well; not necessarily sand/gravel. Even some tiles laid down to cover the bottom might be beneficial.
