anyone know what it all entails to obtain a paima, and about how much i should be looking to spend. right now im only rocking a 1200 but i have plans in the works to upgrade to about 10k ;) it'll be a few years (when my cats outgrow my 1200. but i would like to house the most massive freshwater fish alive so i guess the only way would to be to get a paima.

i dont think there is man(any regulation)

Hope you achieve your goal, I'm sorry I don't know the regs. Contact zoodiver, he'll have the info for sure

If you are going for one, build the tank first, then get the fish. And DON'T buy from Live Aquaria. They sell them too small, and most don't live. Look for an 8 to 10" or larger juvie. Check with sellers from this site. If you can't find one there, let me now when you have a tank big enough, and I'll help you out.
Make sure you get copies of the CITES II import permits to make sure it's not a blackmarket animal that was smuggled in. Lots of those are around, and I'd hate to see you get stuck with one of those.

thank you for that, that was the kind of info i was looking for. i dont plan to get the fish till i get the set up. its too outrageous of a tank and anything could go wrong to where i dont get it. like i said it will be a while i just want to have all my ducks in a row so that when i do do it i can do it right. you think a 20'width x 12'front to back x 6'height would be large enough to house one for life? im hoping to one day charge admission to my basement;) being in iowa there's not alot of aquariums around that have anything of the sort. we have the blank park zoo in des moines, and that is 2hrs away half way across the state. i think i could possibly generate enough revenue to atleast partly pay the heating/filtration bill.
