:nilly:Hi everyone !
I live in Thailand and I am new in the team. Normaly I do Tanganyika and stingrays but I have my new project almost ready and with that me and my friend should qualify in MFK.
One year ago we found 2 Arapaimas in a shop here in Thailand and they looked so unhappy so we bought them and put them in a 12000 liter pond in the garden. Now they are at least 3 times as big and very happy, so we dicided to to make a bigger pond for them. The new swimmingpool,10x5x1,10 meter, tiles, pumps (25000 l/h), 4x18w UV-filter was finished yesterday and the local firebrigade was here and filled the pool up with the 55000 liter of water we needed, they took the water from a waterfall close to the city, (dont want the goverment water with all their **** inside).
We have 5 aligator gars from before and now we bought 8 arapaimas more (130-220 cm) to give them some friends.
The new arapaimas will arrive in 4 days from now, we rented a big truck with a 12000 liter tank on it for the transport and tomorrow I will speak to an veterinarian about how to do when we transport them, maybe we have to drug them during the transport. The biggest is approximatly 50-55 kg (according the former owner, who cant afford to feed them anymore) so maybe it is a good idea to drug them.

Do somebody on the forum have experience of this and give me some advice ??????

Best regards, Richard

love it... please post lots of pics :)

try sending a PM to zoodiver he may have some transport experience.

i have moved two 3 footers by they are babies compared to what you have to move

how far do you have to transport them. ???

Say... whew man! Never have I heard of daring such as that! So what's that now? 8 arapaimas? Dang!

What you feeding them anyways? And how.... never mind. I'll bombard you with questions later. :)

The 4 biggest are very close to here, 20 km and the last 4 (small) are in Bangkok now, (300 km from here) and there is the problem.

The former owner want to bring them here if we pay the diesel and he guarantee that they are fine when they arrive but he want to take them on a pickup !!??
I think it is safer with a big truck with tank so that they can go up and breed fresh air when they need.

Tomorrow I will speak with the veterinarian and see what he have to say.

we moved the 3 footers together in a 44x46x29tall bulk container about half full with the lid STRAPPED DOWN with heavy duty nylon cargo hold down....they banged around but were fine in their new ........lost some scales but they are very hardy fish

Until now we go sportfishing every weekend in the Thai-gulf and take 15-20 kg baitfish every time, but soon when we have 10 of them and 5 aligator gars this will not be enough.

Maybe we dont have time for big gamefishing anymore, 10 new children and we must fight to keepthem alive !!!!!

It is not that serious, the price for this fish is 60 cent/kg in the market so it is not a big problem !

Thank u, thank u, very grateful !!:nilly:

Hi again !

Started up the pumphouse/filtersystem today, big project in itself, everything is in concrete, 3 x 1000 liter filtersystems.

Everything went smoothly, to good to be true, dont think I can sleep tonight, must go in to the pumphouse and look all the time, been there 5 times the last hour.

We made 6 holes in the short wall of the pool, 3 on the bottom and 3 on the surface to make it easier to keep the pool clean.
The 6 holes we made with stainless steelpipes and they was fixed in the concrete, so it was scary when the concrete burned. Was they still in the same position ???

Yes, when we started up everything today we could see that everything was ok and we was very happy !!

Next post will be when the arapaimas arrive, 1 april !

Take care of your fish now, ok !

Best regards, Richard:drool:
