+- 7.0 they are very hardy.....i dont know that they care much about the ph within reason......being air breathers it doesnt affect their gills much.

little ones are more sensitive ( under 12 inches )......

Agreed. I run mine around 7 ish. I've seen lower do well - but nothing lower than 6. Higher than about 7.8 tend to go off of food.
