I have a five inch arapaima. I put him in my big tank thinking he would be fine but my poly ornate bit his tail off at the end. It has been in a different tank now and has healed over but what I'm wondering is since it has do much growing too do if there is a chance some kind of fin could grow back. He's my first arapaima so I don't know much about them. As far as how durable they are. Hopefully someone has good news

First i hope you have a pond ready for that beast when it gets older. Second, i saw a video on youtube of a guy doing surgery on his aro, he cut part of the tail off. It grew back in a few weeks so i am guessing it will be similiar for the pima, hope this helps,

Ben

Yea thank that is good news I'm hopeing for the best. I'm just waiting too see how it goes. I don't have pond but I have 7 in a half ft by 50 inches tank. For when he gets big. I mean big not full grown. He'll have to go in a custom built tank or public aquarium.

what idont understand why do people get fish that they will not be able to care for thru the duration of the fishes life. Don't get me wrong I am all for for owning these type of fishes and truly other monsters but when i hear people saying i HAVE A 7' TANK THAT IS 50" WIDE for fish that can easily exceed 7' there for you would need to have a tank at least 15'. If it was my fish donating a fish that you have raised from a small size would truly not even be a option.

I don't see a problem. He has a place for it once its too big, and its his decision to do what he wants with it as long as he cares for it the right way.

i am not doubting that fish will be properly cared for just putting all that time and money into something that will have to be given away

Hey just now caught ya. I properly care for every fish I've ever had. If everyone cared for there fish the way I do then there wouldn't be a badly treated fish in the world. I will house this arapaima and treat it great as long as I can. Then I will sell or give it only too someone who can house and care for it properly. This is monster fish keepers man. I am doing what this site is about.
