Hi Kaya,

There are a couple of shops in Bombay which currently stock dozens of Arapaima (from sizes ranging from 7" to 18").

As mentioned above, if you are buying these within the country, you don't need any paperwork.

Let me know if you need the details for the shops.

PS: Prankur (Joergemathew) from Bhopal bought an Arapaima from Bombay a few months back. You can also ping him for any details.

Sid, thanks mate.. a pima is def def long shot.. With 4 Silver Aros and a RTC i'm goin crazy ya i have had a look at prankur's thread..there is also gokulshol who has a pima.. gotta check with him next time i goto chennai.. prob will be able to meet him and have a look at one.. thanks again mate.. what would it roughly be like for say a 10" now????

Just to be safe, you can request a copy of the CITES paperwork that each particular animal was brought in with. I always get a copy when dealing with animals imported.

No prob. There are relatively few CITES listed aquarium fish. Seashorses, Asian arowanas come to mind. Asian aros are CITES I normally (which means no trade), but II if they are farmed (so you need to have paperwork to prove it).

ALL Asian Aros are CITES I. The convention doesn't recognize wild vs captive... only the species as a whole.

Ah I see, they moved the ranched ones back to CITES I in '95, apparently they recognized the difference from '90-'95.

So where does the authorization for international trade come from? Is it a special CITES status?
