does anyone know if arapaimas should be keep in pair? is it ok just to keep one alone or they have to be in pair?

It doesn't matter, only concern if you have room to house more than 1 though :)
There is a member reported his Arapaima got up 40+ inches less than a year from a juv.

Yeah arapaima are cool in pairs, or even larger groups, provided they have enough room, and to house a pair or more of full grown arapaima would be massive. Like 10,000g plus. But to answer your question, yeah they can, although they can show aggression if they are stressed.

i do have a 6000 gallon pond with arowanas and some catfish. im moving to my own house soon and i have a 12000 gallon pond in the making, but where i live is having a little problem with the water right now so the bill is going to be a bit high. im thinking of getting a pair in about a month or two. 1. because the weather is really hot at my place right now its around 100 F + =37 C? and my pond is like at 88 F ~ 31 C everyday. i been throwing some big ice bags in there and i tried to give it some shades. Thank you guys!

i might get a pair and see how it go. i will prob have to grow it out in a tank first then when they are big enough to handle them self then they go will into the pond but lets see the bills first lol
