hey guys a question for the arapima pros:

can arapima live in a large (no concrete at all) dug out pond without aeration?

the water is kinda murky btw....it was used as a tilapia pond about a year ago...there are still fish in there...i think theres a few channa in there too...but i cant get to them...

if this is possible, what should i feed it?and how?

if it aint...what would you guys/gals recomend?

so wut do u guys think?

Being a Filipino myself, I find it a trend in muddy ponds not to have aeration or filtration, nothing really. I do know a couple friends who own arapaimas in their own ponds but their ponds are concrete and well filtered. Are you really committed to keeping arapaimas? It is very easy to answer this but this is a lifetime commitment.;)

As long as the pond is very large, aeration is not really necessary i recon

I want an arapaima sooo bad but don't have the facilities at the moment. Just think it will need pounds of food each day when it is 10+ feet, I believe this is one of the fish you really MUST think about before buying. IF you feel ok with this kind of committment go right ahead it'll be awesome to see pix of another member's pima :D

I think the pond should be at least 15-20,000g for no aeration. Just thinking ahead for when the extremely hot days will suck the oxygen right out of the water. ;)

Guys, arapaimas come up to breathe air. Where they are found, they are in areas where the oxygen levels are LOW. They can do fine in low oxygen. At least have some pumps in the pond to move water around and do some water changes.

hey! lupes! how are things?

i was asking coz i think it should be in my bucket list...hahaha

Keep the talapia population up and a fountain or two for areation would be nice. I thought you were going to use the pond for cat GO?

the cat for now is only like 10 inches now...not big enough to devour a tilapia in the pond, theyre kinda big now...ill wait until hes about 2-3 feet...when hes big enough ill fish him outta that pond and make an honest fish fillet outta the thing haha
