Was doing some research in my home state (Texas) and have been looking to own an Arapima. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Regulations with the Texas Commision for Environmental Quality say that (scientific name) "A. Arapima" is legal, while "Arapima Gigas" is illegal. Can someone tell me the differance?

Thats what I thought also, but its said in the law that they are two differant species, when I asked the guy at the office he also said by the way the law puts it they are two differant species but he doesnt personally know the differance

Here is an article: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=95

that might help you. Most of the fish sold as Arapaima gigas are in fact A. Arapaima. None are actually A. gigas.
