My lfs has 2 big arapimas. My tank is 3'x6'x24". He wants $400 each for one about 3 1/2' to 4' and another 3' 3 1/2. I would really like to get one of them. I know they don't quit growing, but I'm hoping they would grow slowly until I can get a bigger tank.I think one would last a while in the current tank. I already have a 26" shovel nose, an 18" jardini, and a 15" rtc. I have another tank I can put the rtc in.
By the way this guy should be arrested for fish abuse. He has these two arapimas in a 180gal tank with two 3' arowanas. A little crowded I'd say.

do you have resources to care for them when they hit 5'+?
If not just walk away

i agree if you don't have a permanent home of thousands of gallons...just keep walking...they don't stop growing and im sure you know that already...once they get 4-5' they just start growing 2-4" a month...and more from John's words...besides why by an arapaima if you can't house it for life? your just wasting $400 on them...but if your willing to house it for life...your tank or pond better be bigger than 12' around...in diameter...longer tanks don't do them good as they are not as flexible as the arowanas, square is better than long but round/circle is best out of them all...if you can get it a 14'-20' round in diameter than thats going to best house him in.
