Is anyone currently keeping an Arapima in an aquarium at home?
If so, what (if anything) can you keep with them. My lfs has about 20-30 of them and since I've had such good luck with the aros, I thought I'd try my hand at an arapima ( unless you guys think it's a bad idea.)

Don't buy them simple as, they make any tank look small. A guy on this forum has a 2400gallon tank, looks tiny.

Agree having "good luck" with a pima requires a 5k gallon tank..

let's see.....I could move the hotrods out of the garage.......line it with concrete.......put in a couple of windows.......that could only cost $20K.
I'd have to live out there too. I could save alot of grief by just watching them grow at the lfs. hehe

Very true and wise decision. There are some with large large tanks like johnptc that have them. Or possible you could look into an above ground pool or grow one out in a large tank and eat him later provided you like pima and you don't treat him with meds.

But overall if you don't have any large custom aquarium better off not getting one.

Thanks, cichlaguapote, the voice of reason speaks loudly. And, unlike years past, Now I listen to it.

Very interesting fish to own but they will outgrown their tank in just merely months. I use to own one but it dead on me out of the blue.:( Still wanna own one but it's almost impossible for me to source for one here where I'm living.

My wife and I plan to have our own ranch within the next year or so. The plans include a Wolf rescue and a large stand alone fish house complete with a huge built in tank. Even when thats acomplished however there are a lot better residents for the big tank than a pima.

Sadly...the vast majority of large fish sold in LFS's all over the world will never reach anything close to full adult size. Even expieranced monster fishkeepers eye's are sometimes a lot larger than their facillities will ever be.
I know for a fact that my RTC...silver aro...and TSN will be able to be cared for properly their entire lives but I'm realistic enough to understand that they represent the upper limits.
