Archer fish ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
those look exactly like mine, and they are 100% freshwater. toxotes blythii/ clouded archers.

so you bought a couple? what size?
I got 5 @ 2inches. I've seen it posted that they are very slow growers but I've been very pleased with the progress of my group.
They are in a 40B for now. I found that once their eating takes off they want massive amounts of food for their size. They like NLS Grow formula (I stop surface agitation -by submersing the spraybar & pointing downward- while feeding that so they can get it before it sinks), hikari FD bloodworms & California FD blackworms with plankton & PE mysis, which both float better & they gorge on it. so I feed them heavier than any other fish I've raised, and do Lg % water changes every other day. or 50% per day.
I have some other young fish with them which eat "things that fall" because archers eat strictly at top level. but those fish are getting so fat I may have to change something up. The up side is, one young pair of Inca Stone fish spawned in there & fry became free-swimming before they were eaten.
:-o

Yea, I bought 2. They are about 2@ also. Thanks for the great information. I've been looking for some for a long time and finally came across these.
I wanted some for a long time also. they are fun enough to watch spitting that I'd eventually like to get them in a tank with enough space above water for branches & bugs.

Yea, I'm looking for a really nice manzanita branch to throw in the grow out. Hopefully I can convert them to pellets sooner than later though.

they're real easy as long as it floats. hard pellets must be tiny like NLS Grow, larger things are accepted if softer. hikari floating sticks broken in half or the FD worms I mentioned.
