So I kept an archer for a few years a while back, loved the fish... I have a 125 gallon brackish tank (1.015 salinity) that I am soon going to de-stock... then restock with a possible school of archers..

ive seen some stores (big als) with archers in full salt.. but it seems everywhere ive read, of the 3 species, they are all true brackish only...

so is there anyone keeping archers in full salt?? or close to it?

reason I ask is because this 125 gallon still houses a mono and columbian shark.. and id like to up them to full salt soon, and still be able to do the archers comfortably.

thanks

I think I saw pics on here not too long ago of a guy that had archers and other brackish fish in a large tank with some clown fish and niger triggers. He slowly converted it to full salt if I remember correctly.

I know the conversion can be done, it makes sense, most brackish can make the jump, even if only for short periods of time... what I want to know is how it affects the longevity of their lives....

if it shortens them significantly, then obviously its a bad idea... if not, then im game to see how it works....

Anyone?? Where's my archer experts? Should I repost this in the General Saltwater section??

i remember that thread. he had a niger trigger and a clown in there with his brackish stuff. i think it was high end brackish though. most bony marine fish can handle salinity levels as low as 1.012sg. but i wouldnt expose thef to those levels for too long. maybe about 1.018 is the lowest i would go for marines. there is someone here who has a green chromis in 1.012sg and it was fine last time i heard. its the tank with the arch made of oysters. might be in the photo thread.

inverts need 1.022+ to survive though.

back to the OP. ive seen archers caught on tv in the soloman islands on rex hunt. the mangroves where they where caught are full sw (between the islands). most people reckon that archers go out to the reefs to spawn. so i guess they will be fine. as long as they are adult sized. and the right species. Toxotes jaculatrix i think

My 75 gallon tank is currently in 1.021 SG.

Archer is just fine, GSP is doin great and GS Scat is doing fine and Columbian Shark is great and my Jaded Goby is chillin.....
