I have seen nearly everyone of my fish (except my Archers and Puffers) spit out their food only to eat it again. Mostly it's when they eat something a little bigger than they expected...like a large pellet for example. By the way, I can't get my Archer's to eat anything but flake (as far as processed food goes). You may want to try some.

As far as your question goes, I wouldn't be worried about it as long as your water is checking OK. As long as he appears to be eating and is active, I am sure he is fine.
