Hi, I know this probably isn't the right place to ask about Archerfish if anyone could give me more info on them I'd be pretty thankful.
Thanks!
nice fish tank by the way
do a search on MFK, there are pleanty of posts and threads about archers. i assume you will have the common archerfish, but post a picture if you can, some of the more experianced members will be able to ID them for you. we will be able to give you better advice as each species requires slightly different conditions to thrive...
anyway if it is the spieces you have, the common archerfish can get over a foot, but is usually smaller in aquaria. it is also a shoal fish so a big tank is a must. they can be kept on their own but they tend to become shy and reclusive.
the average tank size ive found online is about a 75G, but some sites say as low as a 55G. i suppose this depends on the amount of fish in your shoal. id opt for as many as possible though. as one of my archers killed 3 of its shoal. so it was the only one left. they where only 1" long. so id think about a 100G as you will want an air gap at the top of the tank. a 50/50 water/air setup is best with loads of sticks coming out of the water, as it allows the archers to practice shooting when you release the crickets.
they normally like a S.G. of around 1.010, but it depends on the fish, and a high Ph. adding salt will raise the Ph to around 8, but i'd use beach sand or crushed coral as a substrate, and this will act as a buffer, and keep the Ph high.
i do 25% weekly water changes, and have my tank overfiltrated.
i think all my information is correct... but any other members feel free to correct it.
rock on
