Ok ive had this archer for roughly 3.5yrs now and ive never had any probs w/ him til this last week. Hes 6"-7" and basically eats mealworms w/ the occasional partial block of bloodworms that he steals from the other fish. Hes in a 155gal bowfront w/ a ray, an angelfish, 2 BN plecos and 5 silver dollars. Filtration is a fluval fx5 and a fluval 405 both full of ceramic rings in case anyone thinks that important. The other day i noticed what looked like a scale sort of sticking out on the left side above the gill area. None of the scales are missing. Well in the past few days its gotten red and almost seems like there a bump under the scale thats sticking out and today the redness looks to be spreading under other scales. I have no idea what im dealing w/ here or what i need to do. The way hes swimming also seems off..not in a way i can describe but after having him for awhile i can tell hes 'off' i guess. Im going to do water testing so i can post params in a bit but any ideas would be appreciated..
o and ive tried but cannot get pics. He seems terrified of my phone and takes off when i try to get pics.

Is the archer in freshwater or brackish?

Theres your problem...archers are brackish...I think there is one species that is completely fresh but its really rare...I might be mistaken, but if it is the common banded archer fish, it needs brackish.

At this point i think its too late. Im also feelin like this might be more of an injury issue instead of a water issue but since i dont know whats going on theres obviously no way to tell for sure. Now theres white stuff coming out from under the scales and he doesnt wanna eat and seems to be having issues staying level. Ill probly have to put him down soon and it sucks...
