Does anyone here have any personal accounts of keeping archers successfully in saltwater? I've been curious about doing so once I get a large enough SW tank, and wanted some input as to whether it is doable

They are fine in SW.

What salinity level do you plan on keeping? I have my Archers in 1.008 brackish.

They should be fine. I've seen a fh in a salt tank before, that was wacky.

I bet it didn't live a long life in there. :( Painful way to go too.

plan on going full strength SW...don't have a measurement on it b/c the tank setup where the archers would go does not exist yet

As for cichlids in SW, I've seen Mayans (uropthalmus) in pure SW in the wild (feral populations in FL) and supposedly blackbelts live in coastal areas in some places too

I wouldn't put them in full SW - while they do spawn on reefs, this is only a temporary stay in SW. The rest of the time they live in fresh and brackish water. For long-term care, keep them at a lower salinity than seawater.

Thanks for all the replies! I might end up stating away from adding archers to SW tank, as the fish going into the eventual large tank will by the G. fimbriatus in my avatar
