Archocentrus spinnosissimus.

Hey I just found these fish while googling. From what I read, they seem similar to convicts?. Looking for some first hand experience with these guys, and how common/avail. Are they?

They're much less aggressive than convicts in my experience, which might be one of the reasons that they seem to have pretty much disappeared from the hobby (i.e. people kept them with too aggressive stuff).

There are several threads on here, usually motivated by an extraordinary picture from the internet

Having kept and bred them for a couple of years (a few years ago), they're nice, quiet, brownish purple fish. Kind of like a brown rainbow cichlid. They look nice in a planted tank with some livebearers. Just about couldn't give them away when they were available...

That said, if you find some, they're pretty much the holy grail at the moment
