I have been noticing some aggression issues with my bigger bichirs. One of the big lap just grabbed a smaller Endli to do death rolls. Sadly, the Endli did not recover. I just noticed my big tikinso Endli is showing aggression toward a 8" weeksii. I feed them 3 tilapia fillet a day and they have been in the same tank over a year now. Is normal behavior for big bichirs?

If the big guys can get the little guys in their mouth they certainly will try.

My Faranah lap takes the occasional lunge at her smaller tankmates. Its definitely an attempt at eating them, very different from the territorial bites she gives my big sen and congicus. The congicus has tried to eat my black Volta a few times. Luckily no successes on that front. If one poly is 50% the length and/or girth of another it seems to happen in my experience :/

I'm biding my time with the grow outs. The extra work sucks, but its worth it. I was really close to throwing my grow outs in the comm tank last night but backed out at the last moment.

I have a 20"+ lap and an about 22"-23" PBB as well as a 17"-18" Koliba and none of them have ever really been any sort of aggressive. My PBB when he was first introduced to the tank was a little nippy, but only because the fish around him were new so I don't think it was intentional and be is also very drawn back now. I also feed mine about 1/3 of a tilapia fillet and about 1/2 scoop of mixed pellets so if anything I feed mine less, so I would suggest just stiring things up in the tank seeing as how you have an established tank I can't really see any recent causes that would call for the aggression.

It's normal behavior for any 20" fish with any 8" fish Joe. My group of 20"+ bichir had wiped out my clan of 34 ATF range from 10"-14" in just 2 nights a couple of years ago. Big fish eats small fish

I'm with dr. B as well iv had a 5" ornate and 5" weeksii in a tank with a 14" lap forever and they r no were close to the girth or length of my lap they don't get bothered had a congi at 13" he paid em no mind either ... But also agree with the other guys big fish eat small fish end if story lol if size diff is to great they will get eat or attempted

When I had my 20"+ bichirs with much smaller bichirs. they showed no signs of aggression. All the bichirs lived in harmony.
