Are african arowanas aggressive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope, you will be fine. Research, research, research before buying though. You need to know what you are getting into.

I have yet to see any agro. I raised one from about 3 inches to about 12-13. I just bought my baby back, now at about 26".

so its fine with my datnoid and silver aro right? Even though my silver is bigger then the african by like 2 inches

well i would say YES they are agressive

i had a 12inch afro in with my 6 x 15-16inch asain aros and it beat crap out of them pushing them all into one corner of the tank

it didnt do any damage but he used to go up to them all the time with his mouth open which they didnt like

As with any fish, there are always exceptions. I have never heard of an African Aro showing any agro. behavior twards anything other than maybe another African. Maybe we need more opinions in here.........

Mine is currently housed with (1) 4 inch Silver, (4) 4 inch VATF's, (1) 5 inch GATF, and a few dithers that are small. The African is 26".

Sorry for OT but got any pics of him at 26"???? That's amazing.

My af aros only ever showed aggression with each other as juveniles. I've seen them kill slightly smaller individuals. The aggression abated as they approached maturity. As adults, I've never had problems keeping them together.

Not to take away from BOTR's specimen. Here's my 2.5 footer last year at about the same size as BOTR's.
