To elaborate, sailfin plecos are bred in vast quantities on fish farms, bristlenose plecos are too.

I think the majority of the plecos seen in the trade are wild caught. Some of the more popular plecos are bred like sail fin plecos and several different ancistrus by farms to supply the lfs. There are always hobbyist efforts to breed plecos too. They tend to be the more colorful and desirable ones

Well said. They fancy ones are wild caught like mangos, Goldie's, phantoms etc. Bristles, commons, rhinos, sailfins are the pond raised ones most of time.
