I wanted to get a pair of convicts and maybe a JD, severum, or firemouth(depending on what I can find). Would a black ghost knife, ropefish, or a non-expensive pleco be compatible in a 55g tank?

xD

about the only thing that could live in that 55g tank for lifeout of what you listed would be an inexpensive pleco like a clown or bushynose and convicts maybe a JD

the severum, ropefish and BGK will all outgrow that 55g tank.

I kept a rope fish with dempsey, jaguar, and an oscar in a 75 for while. I also had a choclate pleco with them. They all got along fine had to move the jag and dempsey becuase they out grew tank. Oscar and pleco sill there but ropefish died when the oscar knocked the strainer off of the filter and he was sucked up the filter.

If you're talking about a breeding pair of convicts, I'd forget getting any bottom dwellers. Convicts are very aggressive when they breed. Keep the severum and firemouth instead along with a bristlenose pleco.
