well i have some discus in my 100 gallon tank and currently have 2 filters running in there. my uncle recently got me a used aquaclear filter and i have seen and heard of them but not sure how good it is. the 2 filters i have now is a regent aqua tech filter. should i replace one of them or should i just leave the setup how it is?

aquaclears are the best hangon filters out there for media choice, and most run quiet ,if used w sand substrate can be detrimental to impellar with grinding noise. I have six 110 s and next to my eheim 2217 canisters have done a great job fo several yrs now running w/o problems.

Ya i have sand as a media so will that mess up the filter?

Sand is only a problem if the intake is too close to the sand OR if your fish tend to kick up the sand or spit it into the intake. Just keep the intake four to six inches from the sand bed.

I agree they are the best brand of HOB filter. If you're worried about sand, move the intake tube up and put a prefilter on the intake.

whats better an aqueon 75 or penguin bio wheel 330 for a 75 G bow front tank

What you do is stack on two AC101's on that 100g..........AquaClears are the best mechanical HOB's on the market...............I have two 101's on my 125g right now................As for biological filtration, build yourselfa DIY wet/dry filtration system...............

I have several AC filters and I am not all that impressed. Sure you can stick any filter material you want in them but as far as reliability goes the larger sizes haven't been all that impressive. The smaller AC20s I have, however, are completely silent and never fail to re-start following a power loss. They are great little filters and I never hesitate to use them.

My AC70s are entirely different story though. After a power loss they usually will fail to restart requiring me to nudge the impeller to start. They are also tend to be loud though not as loud as my Emperor 400. I never use a single AC70 without a backup filter in case the power goes out and I am not there to restart it. If you use them with sand I would definitely recommend a pre-filter.
