Are bass easy to treat???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We've had Ich a couple of times with our Pbass. the old salt and warm water trick cleared it up in no time at all. They are very tough fish. In fact the only Pbass we've ever lost seem to have been the ones that broke out in tooth holes...

We don't have any of them that are still small enough to eat blood worms...

Bruce,

if you look in the fish disease forum stickies there is a real simple cure for ick. bring the temp up and add salt. i add 1 tsp per 5 gals, i think the sticky says to put more salt in than that.. since i have the foam filters bubbling away in every tank i don't add an air stone, but if you don't already have a bubbler of some kind, adding an air stone when you raise the temp is a great idea. I usually take the temp up to 88 - 90 degrees F.

The peacock bass seem to be very suseptable to ick when they are tiny. The bigger guys got it once, but it didn't phase them at all.

salt just worked for my bass, soaked it in a tank with salt for a day and he's done

Yeah. I treated my first pbass with meds and killed them. Ever since then I mantain 85*+ and have had any problems. Very small pbass are pretty susceptible to getting it when they're kept in cooler water.

I have a 10" pbass that's not too small to eat bloodworms.
