Hi, first off are "Black Arowana's" the same thing as a "Black/Blue Arowana"? The reason I ask is two different LFS's sell them for different prices. $100 for a 7-8", and $250 for 10-12".

Anyway, my silver is about that size and I was wondering if the rarity of the Black ones were worth it? I'd like to have a rarer fish in the long run, and I like the color of the blacks. I can't think of any other rarer form of a Silver besides platinum which is impossible to get...... so, what are you guys' thoughts on the Black Aro?

Black are the same thing as blue. Don't let any LFS trick you into thinking otherwise. Black arowana are pretty rare and is a nice addition to your tank. However, I would be very careful because mixing two arowanas is almost impossible. But you might get lucky or you might end up with a very big headache and empty wallet

I will probably be getting a black arowana soon after summer finals are over. If you don't mind me asking whic LFS did you go to? You are in Los Angeles?

How many silvers do you have exactly? Mixing more arowana may spread out the aggression. Many people have mixed 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.. arowanas together. Other people have mixed two. It is all luck and personality on the arowanas part.

Anyways, I was just asking which LFS so I can go take a look. I have no intentions of buying it right now. Just never saw one in real life and would like to do so before buying one.

100 bucks for a black aro isn't bad. I'm in San Diego and the ones in the LFS around my house go for 250-300 bucks >.<

Blacks are worth it in my opinion if you want to see an American Arowana that is flawless from day one to day die. No DE and is beautiful to boot..

Though You will not see the BRUTISH perfection more of a delicate perfection ;) As the Blacks from my experience don't gain quite the girth of the silvers.. And they really look quite different :)

As long as blacks are still endangered by over fishing their populations and nothing is done about it, id strongly suggest anyone staying away from them.

Having a nice fish: Worth it.
Having a fish causing to make it endangered even further: Not worth it.

Silvers alone are pretty unique fish, and else maybe a Jardini?

100 buck for black arowana isnt so bad, around here its hard to fine at the LFS.

nope, they're not worth it..

But I keep 4 of them becasue I like them lol :)

I'd say for the price of the smaller one, it's definitely worth it
